This product provides a lesson on affirmative action, highlighting it within the framework of civil rights. The lesson includes a warm-up prompt, lecture notes on civil rights/affirmative action (including key definitions, court precedents, and standards to determine reasonable group classifications), as well as several discussion questions. The presentation is available in both power point and keynote (includes 7 slides) and includes a link to a 13 minute video on affirmative action and relevant cases. Also included is a follow-up activity that allows students to work together to figure out a fair and effective admissions approach regarding affirmative action. I have also included a teacher notes page to explain how I use the lesson. This is a great lesson to get students engaged in discussion and it provides a balance of activities- warm-up, discussion, notes, video, etc.
