This is a set of 12 English and 12 Spanish cards (24 if printed one-sided, though they are designed to be printed two-sided as a set of 12) featuring 12 different African American historical figures. There is a simple, one sentence description for each of the 12 figures and an image with the person's name. This set features a picture of the person on both sides with one side having the short, descriptive sentence in English and the other side having the same sentence in Spanish. I kept the text simple and in present tense to allow for student reading even at a beginner acquisition level, and an enrichment activity could include teaching more advanced vocabulary (i.e., abolish) to allow students to rewrite the sentences with those words or rewriting the sentences in the past tense. I have included a list of ideas for how to use these cards as well as an English key.
