Although this activity won't necessarily involve an actual formal debate, it should lead to a discussion debating the vastly different "camps" of the Civil Rights Movement. One of these camps was led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and was focused on peaceful protest and passive resistance. The other camp was led by men like Malcolm X and groups like the Black Panthers. This camp preached that militant, aggressive, and potentially violent protest was the only way to change American society.
For this activity, we will be splitting the class in half with each half describing and "defending" one view point while "attacking" the other. Each member of your group will be responsible for completing one section of the following list, then the group as a whole will come up with a general consensus as to why your movement's methods and philosophy were the best.
