Civil Rights Heroes for Kids is a mini-unit to help younger students understand the contributions of Ruby Bridges, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Civil Rights Movement.
First grade students can be introduced to informational text and practice responding to it. However, at that level, teachers would probably need to do the lessons whole group.
Third grade teachers may find that this is not appropriate for their stronger readers, but it will work for struggling readers.
