Choose 1 Civil Rights figure. Next, research their life and efforts to achieve freedom and equality. Create a resume. Get interviewed by the teacher (President’s Assistant), for the potential job: Secretary of Civil Rights and Equality Department.
I always strive to create fun projects that are applicable to the future of my students. This project is great because the students get practice creating a resume and going through a real interview. What separates this project from a research paper is that it is highly applicable to student's future, and it forces them to know the ins and outs of a civil right's figures life.
Here's how I introduce the project on project day. Read intro aloud. Then, have Counselor visit with the class on critical elements of a resume, and their importance. Students take notes in section on project sheet titled "Resume Notes." Enjoy!!!!
