Product Description
This packet is the perfect way to begin your unit on Martin Luther King, Jr. Your students will read about his accomplishments with a one-page informational text, learn important vocabulary words and complete an activity. All of these pieces are collected in a pocket folder (directions for the folder are included).

Then you can move on to other civil rights leaders to complete the folder----They Led the Way.

Civil Rights Leaders: Susan B. Anthony, Cesar Chavez, Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubman.

Students will have the opportunity to learn about these Civil Rights leaders who have changed our world. They have all stood up for human rights and shown us that everyone can make a difference.

Don't forget to download the Preview for a peek at all the activities included in the packet.

In this packet you'll find:
Six one-page informational text articles. One page for each of the leaders mentioned above.

Six Vocabulary Flap pages The flap page focuses on three important words from the text. The words are defined and then there is space for students to write a sentences or draw a picture to illustrate the word.

Six Question Flaps Each Flap page has three questions. The questions require the students to reread the text closely and think deeply.

Six activities The hands-on activities focus on something important in the leader's life.

-Susan B. Anthony- Design a voting badge
-Cesar Chavez-Fruit and Veggies Fun Facts Wheel
-Martin Luther King, Jr. - Peaceful Protest Sign
-Mahatma Gandhi- Indian Life, Diwali Festival
-Rosa Parks- Bus Route Time Time
-Harriet Tubman- Safe House questions

This packet was designed to give you several choices. Please don’t feel like to you have to do everything. Pick the activities that meet the needs of your curriculum, your students and your schedule.

My original plans were to make this a pocket folder activity. But, as I was putting the pages together I realized that many teachers use interactive notebooks. So, I made sure the activities would also work as elements glued into your students’ notebooks.
