As a quick warm up activity during my Civil Rights unit, I had students read quotes for various groups and individuals involved with the movement. Students then have to determine if each statement is an example of violent or non-violent protest. To close the activity, students are given a list to sort into "violent" and "non-violent" categories at the bottom of their page.
