You asked for it so you've got it! This is an engaging activity to encourage higher level thinking and analysis of text through the use of primary source documents. As a teacher, your going to be elated with your students as they focus in on details, and use the analyzing skills you've taught them without a complaint. This is because they'll think its FUN! To do this task, I divide students into Think Pair Share Teams with a copy of each of the 4 primary source documents. Students analyze the documents using a graphic organizer that guides them to evaluate the images. As students evaluate the actual arrest report, courthouse exhibits, and arrest mug shots, they will have amazing discussions about who they believe the "criminal" was and why she was arrested. As I have a high percent of students with disabilities in my inclusion class mixed with higher achieving students, I have created a differentiated lesson where you have step by step directions, plus materials that all of students can be successful.
When you purchase this lesson you will receive:
-A Detailed Lesson Plan Description and Two Methods of Differentiation for these materials
-A Scaffolded Graphic Organizer for Gathering Evidence
-All Primary Source Documents prepared for use for this activity
-Independent Practice Activity: Brain Check (Utilizes writing and student creation of a drawing to assess student mastery)
Though not necessary but a great help...I have also created a powerpoint to use with these materials. This makes it easy to project these materials easily as well as provides you with directions to project for students. You can find this powerpoint at:
