The following is a Role Play Activity for the Civil Rights Movement where students are instructed to work in groups of 4-6 students to create a script, design small props, and present to the class by carrying out a 3-5 minute role play from an event from the Civil Rights Movement (list provided).
- Crisis in Little Rock
- Montgomery Bus Boycott
- Greensboro Four Sit-In
- Freedom Riders
- James Meredith & University of Mississippi
- March on Birmingham
- March on Washington
- Freedom Summer
- March on Selma
- Black Power Movement
This activity allows students to apply what they have learned about the Civil Rights Movement (causes, events, key people, and outcomes).
I pair this activity with my Civil Rights PPT (available for purchase in my TPT Store). I teach from the PPT first then allow my students to go further with their study of the Civil Rights Movement and get an opportunity to feel what it was like to be a part of even one event from the Civil Rights Movement!
A Grading Rubric is attached and point value can be adjusted to fit your classes needs.
