This resource has been created as a student-led activity in a student-centered classroom. There are 6-8 task cards for each book, which include questioning before, during, and after reading the text. The cards push higher level thinking, as they were designed using Bloom's Taxonomy (asking the students to: describe, analyze, apply, interpret, etc).
Each book has a focus on the Civil Rights Movement and equal rights. The themes are based around determination and bravery.
The books cover a variety of genres including: expository texts, historical fiction, poetry, and biography.
You will need a copy of each of these books for this activity. If you can't get a copy of a certain book, just take those task cards out and use the others!
