Civil Rights - Song Analysis Project (Blowin' in the Wind by Bob Dylan) - This 4 page Civil Rights teaching resource contains a project that requires students to analyze the song Blowin' in the Wind by Bob Dylan and the ways in which it relates to the overall events of the Civil Rights Movement. The famous song became an anthem of the Civil Rights era and is an excellent tool for student analysis in order to show their interpretive skills and their ability to relate a source to the events of the Civil Rights Movement. It is also an excellent tool for using music to engage and excite the students in your classroom when learning about the Civil Rights Movement in American history!

The resource includes a student handout that details how students should complete the project. It explains how students should use historical photos related to the Civil Rights Movement in order to make the links between Blowin' in the Wind and Civil Rights. Students then create captions for each image in which they explain the historical relevance of the photo and how it relates to the lyrics of the song.
