This is an illustrated timeline of events during the Civil Rights Movement to use with English Learners. Perfect for history teachers, English teachers, and ESL teachers! I used this with high school beginner English Learners, and it was highly successful.
The pack includes:
1 large timeline with pictures and years
2 two-page illustrated student timelines (differentiated)
Student timeline 1 is for more proficient English Learners and has spaces for them to summarize each picture on the timeline and a place for them to write a summary of the Civil Rights Movement.
Student timeline 2 is for less proficient English Learners and has sentence frames under each picture on the timeline which require only single words or phrases and a summary paragraph frame for the Civil Rights Movement.
Civil Rights events/topics covered in the timeline:
Civil War/freedom for slaves
Rosa Parks/bus boycott
lunch counter sit-ins
Martin Luther King, Jr. speech
Civil Rights Act passed
Martin Luther King, Jr. assassination
Barack Obama elected president
