This is an excellent short worksheet to analyze a primary source quote and image from Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House to Ulysses S. Grant in April, 1865.

After reading the quote and analyzing the images, students respond to 5 Common Core-aligned short response questions. An answer key for these is provided for your convenience.
