I created these Civil War fact cards to help share exciting content area facts with my students while helping them strengthen their fluency skills. We use these cards in a variety of ways in our classroom. Here are just a few ideas!
They can be used in a center where students read the cards three times to themselves and then three times to a partner.
You can incorporate a writing task with these cards by encouraging students to pick out several facts that are interesting to them and researching more about those particular facts. You might also ask students to respond to why a specific fact was interesting to them.
Students can create audio recordings of the facts to help them with their fluency.
Just let them read the facts and enjoy them! (This is my personal favorite way to use them!)
There is a blank map that can be used for students to color in Confederate or Union states. There are also blank cards for students to write in their own facts.
