This video worksheet allows students learn about the important Civil War Battle of Fort Donelson and how General Grant became the top Union commander. The video clip is only 15 minutes long, but it is packed full of information that will keep your students engaged.
This video worksheet works great as a complement to any lecture on the Civil War in the Western Theater or Fort Donelson in particular. The worksheet helps students understand the importance of controlling rivers in the Civil War and the uniqueness of General Grant during the Civil War. The video is great for visual learners and helps break up class time so students are more focused throughout the entire period.
This activity is very easy to use. All you have to do is hand out the worksheet to the students and play the video from the following website below. You can also download the video right to your computer from the website.

Students watch the video and answer the questions on the worksheet. The worksheet includes 18 questions and has an answer sheet for the teacher. A QR code is also included for students. I recommend pausing the video at times to allow students to reflect and answer questions. With pausing the video and discussion the video will take 20 to 30 minutes to complete. The worksheet can be used to generate classroom discussion or be used as homework. Feel free to modify this assignment as needed for your classes.
