This assignment asks students to assume the role of a military commander. They have been given a list of Civil War military technology from which students are to select one. They will conduct research on that particular piece of military technology answering a specified list of questions.
Students are then to write a speech from the perspective of a Union or Confederate military commander describing the technology, how it works, and how it will impact the war.
This can be used as an individual or group assignment. Once students have completed the written component, they are to present their speech to the class.
You can assign different pieces of technology to specified groups and have them fill out graphic organizers.
