I used this as a reading practice exercise with my US History honors and regular classes.
It is a letter from a Union soldier, WIlliam Childs, to his wife. In it, he details his experiences as a medic during the Civil War.
It is a fantastic document to examine and there are plenty of interesting details to discuss with your class.
I placed 4 guiding questions at the bottom, and I have my students write in complete sentences and (of course) cite text evidence to support their answers.
Please let me know what you think!
