Civil War Simulation Activity for middle and high school students. This interactive Civil War Lesson plan is easy to set up and customize. This simulation lesson plan starts with the election of 1860 and takes students through the Civil War as states secede from the Union and Confederate armies fight it out with your students as leaders. Students learn about industrialism, railroads and many of the big concepts of the Civil War.
Each student is assigned a state to represent and depending on the state’s region will then vote in the 1860 election. They’ll learn what the goals of their state was and what its role was in the Civil War. Guided by their state’s objectives, students engage in strategy, and problem solving. The “magic” behind this activity is that students become emotionally involved with their states and competitive about achieving their objectives. They become caught up in the conflict.
This Civil War Simulation Game is a collection of Microsoft Word and Excel documents. The documents are organized in binders or in a computer lab/1:1 set-up electronically for students and used in combination with the Civil War Map on your projector. This unit can take anywhere from 2-5 days and can be customized based on the size of the classroom. It will be a unit that can be repeated each year and that incoming students will look forward to participating in as it brings history alive for them. Check out our new Online Platform:
