5.14 Use concrete words, phrases, and sensory details to describe the experience of the war on the battlefield and homefront.
This powerpoint gives three primary source diary entries for students to read (I have fixed some of the spelling errors so they are more legible for students). Two of the entries are in diary format while the third is a video read from the soldier's account of the battle of Spotsylvania. I have provided discussion questions for the students to go over after reading the entries. To sum up the day in the life of a soldier I have embedded a video clip that contains a few other accounts and some other facts from historians about how a soldier lived while at war.
Writing Piece- At the end the students are to write their own diary entry or letter. For this I have also included a list of guiding questions for them to answer and think about when writing their piece.
