Product Description
This packet of worksheets with accompanying PowerPoints is a guided inquiry into the definition, characteristics and purpose of civilizations.

Students will analyze quotes for vocabulary comprehension and exploration of key concepts including: civilization, social hierarchy, labor specialization and the social institutions that make up civilizations. There are many types of questions used to integrate Common Core Literacy Standards. Students will identify synonyms, match vocabulary, analyze sentence/ paragraph structure, examine diagrams, inspect ideas, infer meaning and explore new concepts.

The last three worksheets are six primary sources comparing life in Egypt and Mesopotamia. The excerpts have been adapted from sources found at WorldHistoryForUsAll.com and questions have been added for comprehension.

The first two pages have some old comics to explore the purpose of heroes as protectors of civilization and a civilized way of life.

The PowerPoint review is formatted for use with a Turning Technologies Student Response System. It can be easily adapted if you want it to review some of the important or fun questions in the packet. The other PPT should be used in conjunction with the packet and helps students connect and visualize the social hierarchies within civilizations.
