Claim, Evidence, Reasoning and Rebuttal are used in this activity. Students read an article published in the Washington Post and argue their opinion using the C.E.R strategy for argumentation.The students need to think about and answer the question: "Should colleges use their monetary resources to build structures for students leisure activities or should colleges use their monies for academic purpose? State a Claim, Back it up with Evidence, Give your Reasoning, and add a Rebuttal! This activity gives an article from the Washington Post which was public domain, C.E.R topic pertinent sheet, and C.E.R Poster with C.E.R meanings. The poster can be used to discuss exactly what C.E.R is and how you would like students to construct their C.E.R. Students will need to develop become skilled in the art of argumentation when writing for the SAT and ACT.
