Clarinet Embouchure Project for Beginning Band

This clarinet embouchure packet was designed to help you be a better beginning band director so your students can be better musicians. We all know that good teachers are experts at saying the same thing a million different ways and that a picture is worth more than 1,000 words. That was the inspiration for this project!

Through our many years of teaching we have collected sayings, phrases, tips, tricks, recommendations and advice from friends, colleagues, clinicians, and instrumental music classes. The photos included in this project are of our band director friends and college music majors. We appreciate the time they dedicated in making this project successful. What's included:

Embouchure Faces Slideshow

This is a PowerPoint slideshow presentation of professional musicians

and college music education/music performance students. Showing

this slideshow to your beginning band class will help your students in

the first days of embouchure formation. Simply point to the screen

and say “make your face look like this. ”Then, have your students

check their embouchure in the mirror on their music stand.

Student Reference Sheet

This is a short, one page handout to send home with students so they

can use it as a reference when they practice at home. Pictures of a

correct embouchure are included!

A one page quiz is included to help assess student learning

and understanding. Also perfect to leave for a sub if you have

to be away from your class.

Embouchure Quiz Answer Key

A convenient answer key is included if you choose to use this as

a sub activity.

Choosing a Clarinet Player

This is a one page guide that will be helpful to you when

it is time to assign your upcoming beginning band students

to instruments. This handout includes physical attributes to

look for in potential players.
