This Class Activity - Fraction Review was created by Pupsaroni Puzzles for used in classrooms studying fractions. This activity gives students a chance to practice adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing two given fractions. They are also practicing ordering the two fractions as well as finding a common denominator for them. Students can work together or work individually to do the activity. Working together gives students the opportunity to discuss the work as they go and bounce ideas off each other to complete the cards.
The cards on page 2 can be copied for students on different colored pieces of paper. The students will cut out the cards to use for the activity. Students should be instructed not to place a letter card where that letter card already exists, and students should not place their color card where there is already a card of that color.
Cards on pages 3-7 should be cut out and hung around the classroom or the hall. These will be the fractions used for the activity. Cards 8-12 are the answer keys.
Students can work this activity individually or in pairs or trios. Working with a buddy provides an opportunity for students to discuss the material, and it adds a sense of fun for the kids. Students tape their card (A,B,C,D,E,F) next to the set of fractions they are working. They do the task asked on the cards using the two fractions given.
The focus of this class activity is to review adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and comparing fractions as well as finding a common denominator. The activity is set up to where all the fractions listed first are the largest so that all answers will remain positive. As students get into integers, the numbers can be reversed or new fractions can be added for the students to practice.
