Dr. Seuss week is approaching yet again, and it is always one of my favorite weeks of the school year! I LOVE Dr. Seuss, so we do a lot of fun stuff with him in our classroom!
This year I have started a new idea called FAMILY HOMEWORK. The kiddos have been obsessed with it and it has actually helped behavior as well!
Family homework consists of class book project that students take home one at a time. We make a class book in our room and then each night a new student gets to take it home. At home, the parents and kiddos sit down together for some family time and read through the class book. Then, at the end there are extra pages so that the parents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, grandparents or whoever can add to our book with their creative, thoughts, or ideas! The next day the student brings the book back and shares it at share time! That student is responsible for watching who behaves well that day and gives it to someone special at the end of the day!
I will be making a HUGE product for the FAMILY HOMEWORK but this product is just one of the class books we send home!
This is a FREEBIE for you to try out and send home with the kiddos! Trust me they will love it!
I read the book, "There's a Wocket in my Pocket" to the class. We had a huge discussion on and and did an anchor chart about some of the rhyming words and what objects Dr. Seuss chose. Then we talked about the Frass in our class who plays with all these other creatures in our classroom.
Ex: The Frass in our class is very silly. Everyday I see him goofing around with the qwencil on the pencil!
They make up a creature that goes along with a classroom object. They then draw a picture of exactly what they wrote. They would draw the Frass in our class doing whatever with another creature. I let them go wild with creativity when they design their new creatures! They have a ton of fun with it!! This book becomes a beloved favorite!! What the parents come up with is even better!!
