While this debate is designed around the topic of genetic modification, a few simple changes and it works for any topic. Included with this project is an overview of the debate process for students, a description of five different roles that students can choose when they participate in the debate, a teacher evalution rubric, and a peer evaluation rubric. In addition, the specific CCLS for reading, writing, listening and speaking that apply to this project are outlined.
In the past I have completed this project and had teachers, students, parents and administrators act as audience members. The students really took their roles seriously and enjoyed the research and prepatory phases of the debate.
