Group company project with 'monopoly money' incentive
an extended cooperative group project incorporating all the basic software skills: word processing, spreadsheet, database, paint/draw, animation, presentation and web design using a self-motivated approach
A popular lesson pack selected from the Complete Books.
The class forms groups which then invent an imaginary company and product(s).
They create all the necessary documentation and software to accompany their business::
a spreadsheet of employees
a database of products
animated promotional advertisement using Flash
mail merged Christmas party invitations
design a company logo
a website presence and blog
Provided is a complete lesson pack: detailed outline of lesson for teacher, money to print, handout with detailed requirements for students, contract agreement for student groups to sign with teacher etc.
The added extra is a creative twist: students can buy and sell their knowledge with other groups using issued 'monopoly money' as they trade with one another to make the most money. The teacher can offer small tutorials out the front of the class for monopoly 'payment' where the knowledge is then on-traded by pupils to other groups.
Students learn these skills better than any other technique as a they teach them to others.
Groups are assessed on the work produced under a 'contract' with the teacher but are rewarded separately just for fun with a prize on the basis of monopoly money earned by each company group.
