Token economies are a part of many autism classrooms. They are often used to increase appropriate behaviors.

Here is a no-fuss, easy to implement money token economy system for the special education classroom. Many students with disabilities understand that money has value, so it is a great reinforcer to use for students. This token economy system will allow students to use money to buy backup reinforcers, such as time on the computer or a favorite activity. Students will earn quarters for each period that they have appropriate behavior. There is also coin token economy for students who need more frequent reinforcement.
