Do you find yourself "making up" a participation grade for your students at the end of the marking period? Try this tool to allow *students* to self evaluate using the criteria so many of us have in our heads when we make those mental calculations.
Students rate themselves along two continuums on the chart and explain their rating on each side. Then you can sign off on their evaluation of themselves, and enter that grade in your grade book, and the return the paper with your signature or stamp on it. OR you can adjust the scores as you see fit, communicating quickly and easily with them on the paper and returning it to them for feedback.
This lends itself well to students setting goals for themselves each marking period.
