In this unit, students will explore what their lives will be like 28 years into the future when they will celebrate their 20 year high school class reunion. Students must choose a career that they wish to have at that time in their lives. They must research this career in order to learn what steps they will need to take to acquire their desired job, including college and/or trade school, specialized training, job interviews, working their way up in other positions, etc. Students will prepare a report to document their research. Students will attend a Career Fair and will also be encouraged to contact adults in their desired field in order to gain a better understanding of what their desired career will include. On the due date for this research, students will attend a Class Pre-Union. This will include some elements of a Class Reunion. Students must come to school that day dressed in the attire of their desired career. They must also be prepared to discuss their future lives with other students at the Pre-Union and to speak knowledgeably about what they learned in this unit. Students will be assessed on both their research as well as their speaking skills during the Pre-Union. This is great for college and career readiness. It also goes hand in hand with the Leader in Me principle of Beginning with the End in Mind.
