Back to school emergent readers meet editable name books! Beginning readers will love seeing their own name on every page of their little book about rules and procedures. The repetitive text and easy-to-recognize pictures will ensure their success.

UPDATE 6/29/2020 - I added pages that feature children social distancing. One page shows them wearing masks, another shows them staying 6 feet apart. The other pages are the same except I moved the clipart around so that the students aren't close together. You will receive a ZIP file with the original version and the social distancing version as 2 separate PDF files for easiest use now and in the future.

⭐EASY PREP These books are easy prep for you. Just type each student’s name once, and the names will automatically fill in on every page of the book. There’s no re-ordering of pages – everything prints out ready to just cut and staple.

⭐MORE ABOUT THESE EMERGENT READERS The books print half-page size, and each booklet is 13 single-sided pages long, including the cover and a parent letter. They are black and white, and perfect for coloring in. Use these whole class or in small groups, and then send them home for additional practice.

The book supports introduction of these sight words: can

The text reads as follows, with clear picture support for each non-sight word. (view the preview file to see all of them!):

[Name] can follow directions.

[Name] can listen to the teacher.

[Name] can raise his/her hand.

[Name] can sit quietly.

[Name] can keep his hands to himself. / ...her hands to herself. (2 versions)

[Name] can walk in a line.

[Name] can work quietly.

[Name] can stay on task.

[Name] can share.

[Name] can work with a friend.

[Name] can follow all the rules.

Note: I wanted to include lots of possible rules and procedures for you to choose from. You can just print what you need.

All you need to edit student names is a computer (not an iPad) and Adobe Reader (which is free, and there’s a link to it in the file just in case you don’t have it already)

The fonts shown are already embedded in the resource. You won’t have to download any fonts. The file is ready to go! Please note that this means you also cannot change the fonts.

The form where you type student names has space for 8 names, however you can create an unlimited number of personalized readers by reusing the file over and over again.

Long names such as Charlotte and Christopher will fit perfectly. Extremely long names will cause the line to print in a smaller font.
