The end of the school year can be a really crazy time. Students and teachers are all ready for summer break and it's often difficult to get anyone engaged in the learning process, let alone have students reflect on their school year!

As a project based learning teacher, I love challenging my students to reflect on their achievements and the hurdles that they've overcome as learners, that's why I created this project: a survival guide for incoming students to my class.

In this project students reflect on their biggest achievements and what problems they overcame to be successful.

Some examples include:

1. Asking for help from your teacher when you are stuck on a problem during a project.

2. Learning to collaborate and communicate with peers who have different learning and working styles.

3. Conflict resolution

4. Ability to use and reflect on constructive criticism

5. Time management skills

After selecting their problem and subsequent solution to it, students create a video "survival guide" about how to overcome the problems that they have encountered. These survival guides will be shown to next year's incoming class on the first day of school!

This type of activity always excites students at the end of the school year. They love being able to reflect on their school year, laugh about the hiccups along the way, and feel like they are helping next year's students be successful.

It also serves as a great way to introduce your class to your new students at the beginning of the next school year!
