Whole class writing journals are a great addition to your classroom or writing center that will keep your students engaged! This set contains printables to create 11 different class writing journals to support informative writing. Each journal has a different topic and a handy idea bank with questions to guide student writing.
Slightly different than my original narrative Class Writing Journals students first select and read a non-fiction book from your classroom or library. After reading, they write a mini-report in the class journal to teach their classmates what they learned from the book. There are general guiding questions on the idea bank page to scaffold student writing. Students enjoy reading what their classmates have written. It is also great for those early finishers, so they always have something to do!
These are a great addition to your Work on Writing centers!
Topics in this set:
-Bugs! Bugs! Bugs! (insects and spiders)
-Cool People (can be used with biographies or community helpers)
-Cool Places (geography or travel)
-Natural Disasters (earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes...)
-Rock and Roll (rocks)
-Out of this World (Space)
To assemble, simply glue the cover on the front of a standard composition book and the idea bank on the inside cover. I prefer to cover my books with clear packing tape for durability.
*The pages are sized to fit a standard composition book, but certainly could be used with spiral notebooks, as well. *
