Product Description
Inspired by Michelle Garcia Winner’s social behavior mapping, I created this visual for several middle school students on my caseload.

Their teachers expressed concern over the students’ lack of volitional participation in class; i.e., our students will participate, but only when called upon or prompted with a question.

Whether the reason for lack of participation is due to students’ difficulty communicating, formulating interrogatives, or understanding the responsibility of being part of a group in a classroom (just to name a few), this visual can help!

This visual serves to explicitly explain why it’s important to participate in class and encourages self-monitoring skills as students work to fill up the empty boxes by asking questions and/or making comments about what the teacher is talking about. Questions are represented by a question mark and comments are represented by a period.

Spend time in therapy explaining the “why” and “how” of the visual and also time in class with the student and his/her teacher(s) to demonstrate its use in the classroom context.
