Students who are learning vocabulary, as well as starting to sort visually and logically will love this fun game activity. This fun activity is part classification and a part memory game. To use, have students choose a mat and name the "theme". You will have already placed the 6 picture cards that go with their mat in a pile. Once all students have chosen their mat, shuffle all the individual cards for the targeted mats and place face down on the table. Taking turns, students will pick a card, name a picture and decide if it goes with their "theme". If not, it gets placed back on the table face down. The key...remember where the pictures are on the table so they can find their own when it is their turn! First one to fill their board with their themed pictures is the first winner. Continue until everyone wins!
The 8 scenes include summer grilling, ocean, circus, amusement park, laundry room, kitchen, bedroom and pet shop.
This activity is great for vocabulary, classifying, question comprehension and expressive grammar. Additional ideas for use include:
sorting activity: place 2-3 boards in front of the child, shuffle the cards and place in a pile near the child. When a picture is chosen and named, he will sort in the correct "theme".
Inference activity - give clues about individual pictures and child has to choose the one picture named from others on the table. (Boards will not be used)
Use the EET® to talk about individual pictures and theme.
Perfect for individual or small group instruction!
