This project combines 5th grade life science classification standards with informational reading and writing standards. This engaging project is inspired by Pink is for Blobfish, by Jess Keating, which lists animals in the world that appear pink. Students will research an animal within an assigned color. There are three lists included (one for red, another for green, and one for blue animals), each with 31-32 animals for the color of focus. This works great for teaching multiple blocks, as each class can be assigned a color. The task has students writing a two page informational paper about their chosen animal. The first page will be an informational description of their animal, and the second page will include a breakdown of the animal’s name, species name, size, diet, habitat, and predators and threats. A teacher guidance document, colored lists of animals (red, blue, and green), a list of helpful student research websites, as well as a word doc format for students to save and edit based on their own animal are included in this package.
