Students will love this hands-on activity for classifying animals! This product includes 6 puzzle sets for mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and insects. Each puzzle set includes the classification, definition, characteristic (vertebrate or invertebrate), and examples (picture and name of animal included). Also included in this product are 5 reference cards for students to utilize while working on this activity. The reference cards give the definition for classifying, vertebrate, invertebrate, warm-blooded, and cold-blooded. After students are done matching all the puzzle pieces, they can complete one of two activities based on their ability level.
Level 1: Students will classify and record the different types of animals into vertebrates/invertebrates and warm-blooded/cold-blooded using the information from the puzzle pieces. A word bank with pictures is provided.
Level 2: Students will complete an animal classification chart using the information from the puzzle pieces. The chart includes the classification, definition, vertebrate/invertebrate, and examples.
