Classify It! Exploring Quadrilaterals is an exciting collection of lessons and activities to help students master quadrilateral classification. This packet includes printables and directions for an introductory lesson, a cooperative learning sorting activity, a challenging and fun game, and two quizzes. The student materials are provided in color and the color versions are shown in the teacher directions, but black and white versions are included in the appendix along with variations of some pages. Both of the activities are great for math centers and cooperative learning lessons!
New! Three Versions of Classify It Based on Trapezoid Definitions
Did you know there are three different definitions of a trapezoid, and all of them are accepted depending on where you live? American English accepts two definitions, and in British English, a 4-sided figure with one set of opposite sides parallel is called a trapezium. Classify It now includes THREE different variations of the product, one for each definition. Read the definitions below and click on the preview links to see the updates and changes. No matter which definition you use, you'll be covered!
>>>Exclusive Trapezoid Definition
This definition states that a trapezoid is a 4-side figure with EXACTLY one pair of parallel sides. The original version of this Classify It used this definition, so I only made a few minor changes to the cover and first two pages. Click HERE for PDF preview of EVERY page in the Exclusive Trapezoids version of Classify It.
>>>Inclusive Trapezoid Definition
This definition states that a trapezoid is a 4-sided figure with AT LEAST one pair of parallel sides. This is the definition used by the Common Core, although many teachers are not aware that the CCSS uses this definition. All of the activity pages, answer keys, and assessments in this pack use the "inclusive" definition. Click HERE for PDF preview of EVERY page in the Inclusive Trapezoids version of Classify It.
>>>British English Version - Trapezium Instead of Trapezoid
The words "trapezoid" and "trapezium" are switched in the British and American English. In British English, a 4-sided figure with one pair of parallel sides is called a trapezium. Therefore, in the British English version of Classify It, the word "trapezoid" has been replaced with "trapezium" on all activities and assessments.
