Sliding Triangles to Classify:
Cut the cards and let the students place a set on their desk. Partners or singles will work. Partners bring out discussion but so will working individually. Read the clues in any order you feel your students are ready for. Some classes will need a scaffolding of the vocabulary before they are ready to have a double classification with both sides and angles. Therefore, the simple Angle clues and Side clues are provided as well. You will quickly see who understands the vocabulary as they slide their shape to the front of the desk when given a clue.
Great activity to get an informal assessment and gauge on the classroom understanding of vocabulary.
Make it fun:
• Cut the strips, place in Easter Eggs and let the students choose the next clue.
• Place the Clues on the outside of a brown bag and use as a station or math center, allowing the students to look once they have chosen the triangles they think fit the classification.
