The Triangle Classification Challenge introduces triangle classification by angle (acute, obtuse, right) and by side (scalene, isosceles, equilateral) via a rap song (which can also be presented as a poem) and then a healthy competition. The competition asks students to first classify triangles with congruency markings, then with side and angle measures provided, and finally by drawing triangles by plotting three points on a coordinate grid and then classifying. The competition can be done either alone or in pairs, and helps to ensure the students’ experience with triangle classification will be both enjoyable and productive.
The Triangle Classification Challenge can be used either as a great first day for a triangle unit or as a stand-alone, one-day activity. It is sold both as this independent product and also as part of Triangle Mania
, which is a complete triangle unit that addresses area and perimeter also.
The Triangle Classification Challenge is part of a series of two-dimensional geometry products that take students through a journey of discoveries of polygon characteristics, areas and perimeters of squares, rectangles, various parallelograms, and triangles, and culminate in a product that demystifies composite figures and their areas and perimeters. These products are now available as Polygon Classification Challenge
, Quadrilateral Mania
, Parallelogram Mania
, Triangle Mania
, and Composite Figure Mania
, and have also been bundled into the complete polygon unit (sold at a discounted price), Two-Dimensional Geometry Mania
. If you are interested in three-dimensional geometry, the first of a series of 3-D products, the Solid Classification Challenge
is now available also.
Good luck in your use of the Triangle Classification Challenge.
