Students will place title cards on the chart under the correct category: metals, nonmetals, and metalloids. There are two types of title cards. One type of title card contains the name of an element and a fun fact about that element. Students must determine what type of element they have and place in the correct category. The other type of title cards list properties of elements without providing the name of the element. Students must determine if the element is a metal, nonmetal, or metalloid based upon properties such as malleable, ductile, brittle, good/poor conductor, melting/boiling point etc.
Students can cut out the tiles and paste on the chart in an interactive notebook. OR. The tiles and chart can be printed, laminated, and cut-out. Students can complete the assignment as a manipulative activity.
The activity questions are also listed in the form of a WS for later use as a HW assignment or to record results after completing the manipulative activity.
