Materials in Science: In this unit students will identify the observable properties of different objects, such as color, size, shape, weight and texture. They also work together in groups to classify a collection of objects according to the types of materials that they are made of and apply various processes to change the appearance of some materials. For example, the first lesson is all about sorting different buttons to explore different properties like color, size, and shape. They will go on to sort other materials and compare them e.g. a rock vs. a sponge. After this lesson they will learn that matter can change from one for to another e.g. liquid to gas, solid to liquid, hard to soft, e.g. by wetting cardboard, it becomes soft, soggy and easy to tear.
