Product Description
Incorporate authentic learning into your classroom by having your students complete this PBL to rearrange your classroom. The project is organized around the central question: How can we arrange the furniture and materials in our classroom in a way that makes the best use of our space?

Students will think critically to brainstorm different factors affecting how the classroom should be arranged. They will use measurement skills appropriate to your math content to come up with a blueprint. Next, they will use persuasive writing and speaking skills to present a sales pitch to you or the class to convince you to carry out their plan. Throughout the learning process, their engagement and curiosity will drive your instruction through mini lessons on different types of measurement, drawing to scale, and writing and speaking persuasively. You can teach skills on measuring in different units, perimeter, area, surface area, and volume. There are also opportunities throughout for teaching social skills and 21st century skills through different types of sharing, giving and receiving feedback, and being flexible with plans.

This project can easily be differentiated for your age group and classroom needs. It can be assigned as an enrichment project for early finishers/advanced learners or as a whole class project. Assign it at the beginning of the year as you set up your classroom or later in the year as your classroom needs to be refreshed.

The project includes:
- Step by step teaching notes and teaching suggestions
- Central Question
- Classroom Arrangement Brainstorm
- Classroom Arrangement Inventory (with and without measurement)
- Planning pages for rationale for arrangement and blueprints
- Sales pitch planning page
- Self-reflection page
