This classroom management tool follows the 6 stages of moral development developed by Lawrence Kohlberg. When implemented at the beginning of the year, students will begin to take ownership over their character and school behaviors. Students will start to recognize these stages throughout your classroom, as well as the entire school.
In my classroom, I give each student a copy of this sheet at the beginning of the year and we discuss examples of each level. I also show them examples of what each level looks like, so they have a clear understanding of character expectations. Examples of a level 6 would be Martin Luther King Jr. or Rosa Parks. At the end of each day, our class reflects on our positive behaviors by recognizing students who have demonstrated any of these levels. The students really love working towards and achieving higher levels of behavior!
