Need a fun new way to celebrate student birthdays in class that DON'T involve food? With so many food allergies in schools, I decided to do away with birthday treats. In place, I have my students make the birthday boy/girl a birthday card book AND the birthday boy/girl opens a "birthday in a bag" on their special day.
This freebie contains:
- birthday card page based on the song "If I had a million dollars" by the Barenaked Ladies (students each pretend they had a million dollars and decide on fun things they could buy the birthday boy/girl with their money; they write and illustrate their idea on the birthday card page)
-a birthday card booklet cover (a color version and a black & white version) to staple all of the pages together
-an explanation of how to use the "If I Had a Million Dollars" birthday card page with your class
-a birthday in the bag letter to parents explaining what to do
-birthday in the bag tags (a color version and a black and white version)
On their birthday, I also have the following fun things for students:
**sit in the birthday chair (my rockin' bday)- a rocking chair I painted
**pick out a smelly marker gift from me
**put a birthday tag on their locker so everyone can see it's their special day
I hope your students have fun this year celebrating their special day... free of food!
