A Great Tool for Teaching Responsibility
If we want to teach students to be responsible, we have to trust them with responsibilities. Classroom jobs are an effective way to enlist students in the duties of running a classroom.
When I first started teaching, I was most surprised by students’ enthusiasm for helping. If I needed assistance with any little thing, every hand shot up into the air, volunteering to perform whatever tasks I needed accomplished. This is one of the most wonderful things about students. Students love their teachers and will do anything they ask (for the most part)!
Both students and teachers love classroom jobs. Students love this system because they will be responsible for a certain task that helps the classroom as a whole. Teachers will love it because, not only will the system eliminate a few things from their To Do Lists, but they can also watch the children rise to the occasion and learn how to be responsible.
