Promote kindness and classroom community during the holidays by encouraging students to focus on the good things happening in their classroom and the kind gestures given by their classmates. The Classroom Elf Kindness Journal gives students the opportunity to acknowledge the classmates and themselves for taking time to go the extra mile with their peers.
This journal can be used with the mini-books found in Target's Dollar Spot. They are usually sold in packs of 6 for $3, for the decorative covers, and 8 for $3 for white covers. They can be found at different seasonal times throughout the year. This product can also be used without the mini books by stapling the pages together on the left side.
The Target Mini-Books have 16 pages. So, plan accordingly when thinking about how many days your elf will be in your classroom.
This activity is great for morning work, writing centers, or your writing block. I have included two different options for you to choose from when writing. The first option could be used as an end of the day reflection where students can write about what they hope the elf will tell Santa that night. The second option could be used the next morning, with the student writing about the good deed he/she believes the elf told Santa the night before. Both options also have a set for boy and girl elves.
Kindness reports are also included in this set. Teachers can keep these in their writing center, or another designated space and encourage students to share about kind deeds they saw happening by others. This type of thinking will lift the spirits of all students and encourage them to work together and help one another as a community of learners. The elf can take these reports to share with Santa each night.
