Setting clear classroom expectations is one of the best ways to start off the school year on the right foot. When students feel like they have an active role in determining these expectations, it creates a sense of ownership and responsibility for them. This is a classroom activity to brainstorm expectations, not a syllabus or detailed list of rules/expectations.
This particular PPT was created for a science classroom, but can easily be modified for any class.
1) PPT that walks students through basic principles of what they can expect from the teacher, and also what the teacher expects of them. The PPT also guides students through a brainstorming process to come up with their own lists.
2) A simple word document that can be printed for students to both brainstorm their own ideas, and also copy down a "class list" of expectations.
