We use the Leader In Me program at my school and I work on building leadership and responsibility through my class jobs system. Students need to apply for the jobs they want, though I will select who gets the job based on who turns in applications first and/or drawing from a hat. The jobs are tied to my classroom economy where this year, I'll be using Class DOJO. Students get "paid" for their jobs every Friday and we switch jobs every two weeks. Further, the students leaving their jobs at the end of the two weeks coach the new recruits. This way, I only teach jobs once and the kids take it from there. This also helps my classroom operate very smoothly!
