Are you looking for a better way to manage your classroom?
There is no better way to manage a classroom than to give out classroom jobs. This is something I do every year at the beginning of the year, but I will also go over the jobs again in January. I model everything!
You can also teach a mini-lesson or include a book that goes along with classroom jobs and the importance of doing your job correctly and how it affects the entire team when you don't do your classroom job.
In the past, I have always had classroom jobs listed in the front of my room but this year I am trying something different.
I put my desks in groups of 5 with a table in the middle of each group. Every student will be assigned, or may choose, a classroom job off the chart that he/she is responsible for that week. I place the job charts and definitions in the middle of the table for the students to refer back to.
I wanted to show you a picture of mine in my classroom, but I currently have student names and/or faces on all of my posters. So, here's what I did and it was SO EASY.
I went to Dollar Tree and bought those Velcro tabs. I then typed the student's names on cardstock, laminated, cut them into tiny rectangles, and put a Velcro tab on the back of each one. I then put (5) tabs on the owl posters after laminating them and I know have a place to put (5) names. I just put the tabs below or above each owl.
And our students have just taken school pictures so I went up there this week and took the mini picture and put those on the cardstock rectangles so they can see their faces. This might be better with Kindergarten. I tried to use lots of visuals in case you are a Kinder teacher.
Jobs can change weekly and another student can be assigned the task of changing jobs. I wanted to make this editable, but I'm sorry I still can't figure out how to do that on my PPT.
I hope that you find these useful. My kids really enjoy them and it has helped tremendously with getting my room cleaned at the end of the day and getting tasks done that I just don't have time to do.
