Student Leadership jobs are a great way to develop a positive classroom community! Students apply for a position and take responsibility for their job. When students have ownership and involvement over a classroom task, they begin to feel part of the classroom community and build positive leadership skills. As the teacher, decide how long you want student to have a certain role. Since students are applying for a job, they should have their job for a stretch of time. Perhaps a quarter, semester, or the entire year. I have found changing jobs once a year works well for my students.
I have created a list o possible classroom leadership jobs in this file. However, you can create any job that fits the need of your classroom. Make sure you have roles that are helpful to you and your classroom! Some roles you may want more than one person to have. I have included the jobs I use in my classroom as an example. You will notice I have 6 jobs that I want multiple students to have.
